General information on your drinking water

Raw water is drawn from Kipawa lake by two variable speed submersible pumps. The treatment consists of pre-ozonation in order to oxidize organics; two (2) activated carbon filters; two (2) slow sand filters and secondary disinfection using Sodium Hypochlorite. Water is then stored in a 656 m³ water tower which provides for hourly variations as well as fire protection. The treated water is then gravity fed to the community. The design capacity of the plant is 367 m³/d.

General information on your wastewater system

The wastewater collection system comprises of a sewage network and one (1) lift station. All sewage is conveyed by gravity to a 150 m³ septic tank where the primary solids settle. The untreated liquid portion goes into a 150 m³ regulation tank where it is held for 24 hours and then feeds into the three (3) bio filters at a constant rate. The wastewater percolates through the filtering medium and the treated water is then discharged into Kipawa lake.
